PAGE TO THE STAGE
Arts-integrated literacy program for grades two and three
PAGE TO THE STAGE
Page to the Stage is an arts-integrated literacy program using theatre, storytelling, and performance to deliver evidence-based Structured Literacy instruction for 2nd and 3rd grade students. Through close work with a play’s characters and language, students build decoding skills, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension while actively engaging in reading, writing, and speaking. The program culminates in students working alongside industry professionals to write and perform a counter-narrative—deepening comprehension, promoting critical thinking, and affirming student voice. Literacy instruction is embedded in the text, guided by Lexile assessment data, and delivered by a collaborative team of literacy and arts professionals. This is not enrichment layered on top of literacy—this is literacy, brought to life.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to use theatre and storytelling as a vehicle for Structured Literacy instruction that is systematic and cumulative, diagnostic, and explicit. By integrating reading, writing, speaking, and performing, the program strengthens decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension while empowering students to analyze stories, develop inference skills, and create counter-narratives that reflect their voices and lived experiences.
Vision Statement
We envision a generation of confident, curious readers who use language to understand the world and shape it. Through the power of the arts, students in grades 2 and 3 develop strong literacy foundations—learning not only how to read, but why stories matter. With this strong foundation, these students will go on to become more not just more confident readers, but also more confident speakers and more effective communicators.
OUTCOMES AND IMPACT
